Cognitive
Adjective
Relating to cognition. Cognition is defined as 'the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses.
Example: "the cognitive processes involved in reading"
en: Thinking, also known as 'cognition', refers to the ability to process information, hold attention, store and retrieve memories and select appropriate responses and actions. The ability to understand other people, and express oneself to others can also be categorised under thinking.
Dorsal
on or relating to the upper side or back of an animal, plant, or organ. "a dorsal view of the body"
Example: The brain areas that form the meta-state-space which are common for a majority of participants include primary and secondary visual cortex, posterior parietal lobe that forms the dorsal pathway of vision, the inferior temporal area which forms the ventral pathway of vision, motor cortex and prefrontal cortex.
en: Dorsal, " of, on, or relating to the upper side or back of an animal, plant, or organ." for example: a dorsal aorta.
Feasibility
Noun
The state or degree of being easily or conveniently done.
Example: "the feasibility of screening athletes for cardiac disease"
en: workability and achievability
Posterior parietal lobe
Posterior parietal cortex is a region of the brain that has been implicated in spatial attention and eye movements. In humans, lesions of the parietal lobe cause patients to ignore sensory stimuli located in the contralateral half of space, a phenomenon known as neglect.
Example: The brain areas that form the meta-state-space which are common for a majority of participants include primary and secondary visual cortex, posterior parietal lobe that forms the dorsal pathway of vision, the inferior temporal area which forms the ventral pathway of vision, motor cortex and prefrontal cortex.
en: Posterior parietal lobe
prefrontal cortex
The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is the cerebral cortex covering the front part of the frontal lobe. This brain region has been implicated in planning complex cognitive behavior, personality expression, decision making, and moderating social behaviour.
Example: The brain areas that form the meta-state-space which are common for a majority of participants include primary and secondary visual cortex, posterior parietal lobe that forms the dorsal pathway of vision, the inferior temporal area which forms the ventral pathway of vision, motor cortex and prefrontal cortex.
en: prefrontal cortex
Spiking
When the membrane potential reaches the threshold, the neuron fires, and generates a signal that travels to other neurons which, in turn, increase or decrease their potentials in response to this signal. A neuron model that fires at the moment of threshold crossing is also called a spiking neuron model.
Example: The ability to produce non-synchronous but precisely timed sequence of spikes that were emitted as a result of strongly connected clusters of spiking neurons is called the polychronisation effect in Spiking Neural Networks
en: Spiking
Stimulus
Noun
a thing or event that evokes a specific functional reaction in an organ or tissue. "areas of the brain which respond to auditory stimuli" a thing that arouses activity or energy in someone or something; a spur or incentive. "if the tax were abolished, it would act as a stimulus to exports"
Example: To date, conventional Electroencephalography (EEG)-based non-invasive Brain–Computer Interfaces (BCI’s) have demonstrated the feasibility of detecting several cognitive tasks for manipulating the BCI by using the response of a certain brain area for an observed stimulus by the user.
en: a thing or event that evokes a specific functional reaction in an organ or tissue. "areas of the brain which respond to auditory stimuli" a thing that arouses activity or energy in someone or something; a spur or incentive. "if the tax were abolished, it would act as a stimulus to exports"
Topological patterns of the brain
The term network topology refers to the arrangements, either physical or logical, of nodes and connections within a network.
Example: Recent imaging connectome studies demonstrated that the human functional brain network follows an efficient small-world topology with cohesive functional modules and highly connected hubs.
en: The term network topology refers to the arrangements, either physical or logical, of nodes and connections within a network. It could be said that a topology explains how a network is physically connected, and how the information in the network flows logically. The topology is the branching structure of the tree. It is of particular biological significance because it indicates patterns of relatedness among taxa, meaning that trees with the same topology and root have the same biological interpretation.
Unveiling
the presentation or announcement of something in public for the first time. "the unveiling of the government's new economic plan"
Example: the presentation or announcement of something in public for the first time. The unveiling of the government's new economic plan"
en: the presentation or announcement of something in public for the first time. "the unveiling of the government's new economic plan"
Ventral
on or relating to the underside of an animal or plant; abdominal. "a ventral nerve cord"
